HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!

Quinn made his way to the front page of the Eagle Hearld newspaper! Quinn doesn't have Pre-K class on Fridays so I took him to the Civic Center for open skating to get a little extra skating practice in. The "pusher" he's using is the device they use to teach kids how to skate. it's amazing how much more comfortable the kids are starting out this way. Quinn really likes using it because he can go a lot faster with the pusher, than without it. While he was skating around the rink a photographer from our local newspaper came in and asked if he could take some photos of Quinn. He thought getting his picture taken was pretty cool, his comment was "sweet, baby" when he saw the paper. Today, Quinn had his 4th hockey/skating lesson tonight and he skated the entire practice without the pusher. We/He was sooo excited!! At Tuesday's practice his coach took the walker away from him about 1/2 way through the the practice, which Quinn was not happy about that at all. He's so very competitive he was upset because he could go very fast skating with the pusher and was excited when he finished every drill first. I tried to explain to him that everyone falls playing hockey, even the guys on t.v., and he just needs to brush himself off and get up and skate again. On the way to practice we talked about how cool it would be to surprise his coach by getting out on the ice without the pusher to start practice. Sure enough, after i laced up his skates for him, he said "see ya later dad" and walked over to the access door to get on the ice. he stood there a couple of minutes contemplating wither or not he could do it....i got down from the bleachers and started to make my way to at least help him out onto the ice...but before i got there he stepped out on to the ice on his own. He immediately fell on his tail, but got up right away, brushed himself off, and started skating around the rink. I just smiled and waived. Now he can't wait to get sent up to the next level so he gets a hockey stick and can start participating in weekend scrimmages. guess i need to get to the library and find "hockey for dummies" since i haven't the slighest clue as to any of the rules/regulation/"lingo" etc. all i can teach him is how to drop the gloves, pull the jersey over the other guys head, and start slugging away !! Lets hope we don't need that for a while since he's one of only 3 four year olds out there and the older kids look about a foot taller than them .
